Gan’n Up North

My tongue may be Southern but by blood I’m 100% Northern monkey…

…and whenever I get the chance/there’s a wedding/birthday/christening to attend or whenever I’m simply in need of good vibes…up North I go!

Hartlepool in particular has always been a #happyplace of mine, both my Mum and Dad grew up there and it’s where pretty much all of my family lives.

About a year ago- one of my best friends decided to head North and set up camp too, giving me even MORE reason to pack me bags and get gan!

I’ve been back and forth a number of times in the last month, getting up to all sorts of exciting things and visiting lots of nice places… so I thought I’d share the fun!

And where better to start, then with Brunch!?

First Stop- Wallace & Co Bar & Kitchen

I’m not sure exactly when it did BUT this pretty little spot has popped up down at Hartlepool Marina and it’s a goooooood time!

Not only is Wallace & Co all sorts of rustic cuteness complete with charming scatter cushions, pale pink flowers and wooden everything…

…it also offers a really good range of healthy and not so healthy yumminess (depending on your mood) including a few Gluten Free options too!

Mummy dearest had Eggs Benedict…

Granny’s celiac so she went wild and had a huge slice of Gluten Free carrot cake for breakfast just because..

and I went for scrambled egg, crispy bacon and hash brown which came with some sort of pesto dressing and it. was. gooooood!

The good thing about being in Hartlepool so often means I can slowly make my way through the menu!

I definitely want to return to try their afternoon tea- which looks as cute as a button and to possibly make my way through their amazing cocktail list too!

Speaking of which…

After our lovely little brunch, we jumped on the train and made our way to Newcastle City Centre in search for cocktails…and Newcastle delivered…x3!

Pre-Theatre –The Botanist

Where better to enjoy a botanical cocktail than inside a secret garden-esque green house covered in fairy lights and ivy!

Everything I look for in a cocktail, they have it!

Yummy (obviously)…

Dry ice…

Even plant pots for god sake!!!!

It’s a definite must try for anyone who loves a pretty cocktail in pretty surroundings!

It made for the perfect pit stop before heading to see HAIRSPRAY at Theatre Royal! (which I have to say I was never too fussed about seeing but I’m so glad we did because I bloody loved it!)

Across the road from the theatre –Barluga did perfectly for some post-theatre dinner!

I didn’t manage to get a photo of my cocktail this time but I wish I had because mine was a “Raspberry Bonbon” and (if you’re a sweet cocktail luva-luva like maself) it was one of the tastiest I’ve ever had!

As was my Goats Cheese and Green Pesto Risotto and Mussels in Thai sauce!

Set menu too! WIN WIN!

Our last stop of the day, before catching our train home was the one of my absolute favourites…

This place holds a special place in my heart and I’m always taking my friends and family to share the wonderful alchemy with!

Bubbles, dry ice, fire, fizzing, colour changing yumminess that never disappoints!

The Alchemist!

The cocktail list- LIKE SERIOUSLY!!! JUST LOOK

I’ve gone back and enjoyed many’a cocktails in The Alchemist over the years…

In Manchester, in London and now…in Newcastle!

And I’ll KEEP going back!
